GUIDE THROUGH MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES OF NOVI SAD AND VOJVODINA
Introduction:
In the process of growing up, maturing and acquiring self-knowledge, an individual enriches and builds his personality and widens spiritual horizons, creating room for the acceptance of different kinds of people. Acknowledging, adopting, and locating heritage plays a crucial role in the complex process of individual and society development. The answer to the seemingly simple question “Where is history?” is that it is both in human memory and recorded in books. However, above all, it lives in those artefacts that give evidence of the existence and activities of previous generations. As valuable pieces of exhibition, they are collected, gathered and kept in the museums, archives, galleries and libraries as well as in private collections and other institutions. These cultural institutions base their work on the resources of knowledge and tradition, resources which guarantee profit and success in the future. Museum institutions, more than any others, have the most specific role in organizing and targeted gathering of artefacts. They recognize and appropriately preserve these artefacts, raising them to the level of cultural and scientific importance and presenting them most suitably to the public. Museums are organized not only to preserve and restore the material world of the past, but to actively weave the past into everyday life thus making it an integral part of current reality.
In the museums and galleries of Vojvodina, the tendency was to cover 1000-year-old traces of creative human existence and whole nations as well as the specific features and peculiarities of this area within the framework of general flows of civilization. That is why multi-faceted national museums, homeland collections, specialized and private museums are predominant in this area, as are galleries which track fine art creativity as a necessary part of almost every museum institution. The original pieces that are kept in the museum are the bearers of aesthetic existence and great material value. Thus, the museums become institutions for cultural standards, where the concepts of truth, beauty, and reality can be measured and fulfilled. The aim of this guidebook is to facilitate access and use of museums and galleries as well as to guide people through the rich resources of knowledge that they offer. The book is intended for everyone regardless of his or her level of knowledge, profession, and age. The representative sample of museums and galleries that are illustrated here, above all, serve citizens and all those who feel and recognize themselves as citizens, no matter how long that have stayed in this area.

L idija Mustedanagić, M.A. is born on 1964, Belgrade. Subject matter of her reserching and studing is XX century serbian literature, literary criticism, and museology (she has put permanent exhibition: Serbian literature in XIX Century (1997) and Literature between World War I and II (1998) in Museum of Vojvodina, Novi Sad, Serbia, Dositej Obradović in Čakovo (Romania, 2001) , Miloš Crnjanski in Čongrad (Hungary, 2002), and prepared movable temporary exhibition World of Book , 2006, video ). Published books and others: Groteskni brevijar Borislava Pekića, on 2002 (it is M.A. work defended at Faculty of Philosophy of Novi Sad, 2001); prepared Novi Sad, zemlji raj 1 and 2 , together with Sava Damjanov, Ph.D., 2003–2004; Guide through the Museums and Galleries of Vojvodina together with Vladimir Mitrović, 2002, as feuilleton of weekly newspaper Bulevar for which she used to write literary and fine art criticism and various exhibitions reviews. Second extended issue of Guide (together with V. Mitrović), under the title Museums and Galleries of Novi Sad and Vojvodina – Guide is published on 2006 (web issue 2007). She was publishing numerous texts in Dnevnik, Letopis Matice srpske, Sveske, Zbornik za književnost i jezik Matice srpske, Polja, Rad Muzeja Vojvodine, Književne novine, Krovovi, Književnost, Srpske narodne novine, Srpski kalendar, Vojvođanska scena, Ulaznica, Koraci, etc. She is collaborator on projects: Biografski rečnik Matice srpske i Leksikon pisaca Jugoslavije . She has prepared shorter documentary reviews for televisions Kanal 9 and RTNS (today RTV).
O autoru: Vladimir Mitrović
Vladimir Mitrović (1964. Loznica) diplomirao na odseku za Istoriju umetnosti na Filozofskom fakultetu u Beogradu 1989. godine. Od 1994. ima zvanje Istoričara umetnosti - konzervatora. Tokom prve polovine devedesetih godina radio u Opštinskom zavodu za zaštitu spomenika kulture Novi Sad gde je između ostalog učestvovao u pripremama, arhivskim i terenskim istraživanjima za izradu više urbanističkih planova. Bio je urednik kulturne rublike vojvođanskog političko-kulturnog časopisa Bulevar (1999-2002). Kao istoričar umetnosti, istraživač i konzervator radio na obnovi, konzervaciji i izradi dokumentacije za više sakralnih i građanskih objekata na širem području Novog Sada. Po opštem mišljenju jedan je od pionira izučavanja istorije arhitekture novijeg doba i posleratnog perioda na području Vojvodine. Autor je brojnih studija, tekstova, kataloga i izložbi iz oblasti istorije arhitekture XIX i XX veka u Vojvodini i Srbiji. Povremeno se bavi i likovnom kritikom. Tekstovi su mu prevođeni na engleski, nemački, mađarski, rumunski i francuski jezik. Posebno se ističu njegove studije o novosadskim arhitektima koji su stvarali između dva svetska rata kao i retrospektivne izložbe posleratnih arhitekata sa katalozima dobitnika Tabakovićeve nagrade arhitekture. Tekstove objavljivao u domaćim i stranim stručnim publikacijama, umetničkoj periodici, nedeljnoj i dnevnoj štampi. Između ostalog - Graditelji Novog Sada, druga polovina XIX - prva polovina XX veka (CD Rom, Novi Sad, 2001), Arhitekta Đorđe Tabaković (Novi Sad, 2005), Vodič kroz muzeje i galerije Vojvodine (sa Lidijom Mustedanagić, Novi Sad, 2006); Život posvećen arhitekturi: Milorad Milidargovć (Novi Sad, 2006, u pripremi). Dobitnik je nagrada ''Pavle Vasić'' za monografiju o Đorđu Tabakoviću i ''Ranko Radović'' za serijal TV emisija ''Kuća gradi grad – Arhitektura moderne u Novom Sadu'' (2006). Urednik je časopisa za arhitekturu i urbanizam DaNS (Novi Sad). Član je ULPIDIV-a i međunarodnog udruženja za proučavanje moderne arhitekture Do. Co. Mo. Mo. Živi i radi u Petrovaradinu. “… Obiman publicistički i naučni opus Vladimira Mitrovića, reprodukovan u stručnoj i naučnoj periodici, katalozima izložbi i na CD Rom-ovima, može se podeliti na nekoliko celina. Najveći broj tekstova, pogotovo oni najkvalitetniji, pripadaju oblasti arhitektonske istoriografije. Reč je o člancima preglednog i monografskog karaktera, pretežno posvećenim temama iz oblasti arhitekture XIX i XX veka u Vojvodini. Prošavši stroge recenzije, Mitrovićevi brojni radovi naišli su na povoljan odjek u stručnoj i kulturnoj javnosti. Stvaralaštovo arhitekata Tabakovića, Dunđerskog, Popovića, Kaćanskog, Molnara i brojnih drugih, istoriografski je evaluirano i reaktuelizovano upravo zahvaljujući Mitrovićevom upornom istraživačkom radu. To se odnosi i na brojne manje poznate arhitekte i graditelje iz Novog Sada i Vojvodine, obuhvaćene u njegovim sintetičkim osvrtima. Osim kroz autorske doprinose srpskih, ma|arskih, jevrejskih, nemačkih i ruskih arhitekata, Mitrović graditeljstvo minulih epoha razmatra i kroz različite tipove objekata, hramove, građansku arhitekturu itd. Drugu, takođe podsticajnu celinu Mitrovićevog opusa, obuhvataju brojni ogledi o vojvođanskim arhitektima u razdoblju posle 1945. godine. Treću celinu čine novinski tekstovi, posvećeni aktuelnim problemima u domaćoj i svetskoj arhitekuri i njenoj zaštiti publikovani u Dnevniku i Magzar Szo (1996-1999), kao i magazinu Bulevar (1999-2002). Od posebnog su značaja i Mitrovićevi prilozi o vojvođanskoj modernoj arhitekturi publikovani u stranoj periodici. Popunjavajući duboke praznine u istraživanju arhitekture u Vojvodini, Mitrović je tokom svog desetgodišnjeg rada postao jedan od njenih najkompetentnijih poznavalaca, tumača i kritičara. Sigurno kretanje kroz raznovrsne istorijske građe, izvore i aktuelne probleme, legitimiše ga kao zrelog stručnjaka, spremnog da i u oblasti zaštite umetničkih spomenika primeni stečena znanja i iskustva…” (Prof. dr Aleksandar Kadijević)
